This part of the puppy teething process is actually the second teething stage.

When do puppies lose their back teeth. At only 3 months of age a puppy loses his first set. Puppies develop and lose this set of baby teeth just like humans do. Your puppy starts to lose those baby teeth around 12 to 16 weeks of age as the permanent teeth grow in and replace them. Puppies will typically start losing their baby teeth and getting their adult teeth at around four months of age.

They will usually only have around twenty eight puppy teeth. Puppies start to lose their milk teeth when they re between 12 and 16 weeks old. Your puppy s baby teeth will start to fall out at around four months of age. Loss of baby teeth begins after the puppy is three months old.

By the age of 7 8 months your puppy should have grown all of their adult teeth if their not all there yet try not to worry too much. Unlike in humans the roots of the puppy teeth are reabsorbed back into the gum and then the adult tooth pushes what s left of the tooth out as it erupts from the gum. However if it gets to 9 months and there are still some adult teeth missing we advise you contact your vet. They are usually swallowed.

Puppies get their baby teeth at around three weeks of age. At around four months old the baby teeth begin to fall out to be replaced with a permanent adult set. It usually takes around 4 months for puppies to go through the whole process of teething. As early as eight weeks of age to twelve weeks of age the gums of the baby teeth begin to reabsorb the teeth s roots causing the teeth themselves to loosen and fall out one by one.

A puppy s baby teeth start coming in between 2 and 4 weeks of age and are completely grown in by 5 or 6 weeks. By the time your puppy is about six months old or so all of his puppy teeth should have fallen out and his adult teeth should have grown in. These teeth sometimes known as milk teeth or needle teeth and referred to as deciduous teeth by vets eventually give way to permanent adult teeth. The baby teeth begin falling out approximately one month after coming through.

The adult teeth of the dog total 42 individual teeth and the baby teeth must first be lost in order to make room for these in the mouth. They won t have back molars because they are relying on their mother s milk at that point. Losing baby teeth puppies lose their baby teeth faster than it took them to come in. By the time your dog is about 6 months old he or she should have all 48 adult teeth.

The roots are dissolved and reabsorbed into the jaws freeing the teeth from the gums so they become loose and drop out.
